A Guide to Creating a Low-Maintenance Garden Oasis

If you’re someone who enjoys getting out in the garden, then creating a space that’s made for you and brings you joy is important.

However, not everyone is green-thumbed and talented within the outdoor space when it comes to planting and maintaining flowers. If that sounds like you, then you might want to opt for something that’s a little more low-maintenance and doesn’t take a lot of upkeep.

Here are some helpful tips to create a low-maintenance garden oasis.

1. Minimise lawn space

To help keep your maintenance jobs to a minimum, you might want to consider reducing the amount of lawn space you currently have. Sometimes, having a good amount of lawn space is important because it ensures you have plenty of room for your little ones to play.

However, if you have older children or simply want to mow your lawns less, then reducing it or even replacing your lawns with artificial grass might be a good option to explore.

Lawn spaces can be hard to maintain, especially when you have to both mow the lawn and trim the edges of the lawn.

2. Use raised beds to avoid weeds and pests

Raised beds are a good way to shift focus on your outdoor space if you’re looking to create more appeal in the way it looks.

However, a big benefit of having raised beds is that they can help with drainage, and also to avoid an overgrowth of weeds. Weeds are never enjoyable to deal with, and so it’s good to keep on top of it where you can and to kill them where possible.

Pests can also be a problem that you don’t want in your home, and so it’s useful to look at avoiding them by having raised beds put in place. That way, your plants and flowers also have a better chance of thriving and surviving.

3. Incorporate some calming water features

For an oasis that you can relax in and enjoy, it’s important to have some calming water features installed where possible. Consider what sort of relaxing water features you want in your garden space as some will need more maintenance than others.

A bird bath or a small fountain is easy enough to install and doesn’t take much in the way of upkeep. However, a bigger fountain or pond might need a bit more effort on your part to keep in good condition and functioning correctly.

4. Only plant what you can maintain

While you might be tempted to plan anything and everything into the space, it’s good to be mindful of what you can afford to spend when it comes to your time.

For example, some plants and flowers will be easier to stay on top of than others. It might be that you would prefer to plant just one type of plant, like these allium bulbs, to keep it simple. These types of bulbs are easy to care for and provide beautiful blooms year after year that you can enjoy.

5. Get a gardener

Finally, if you don’t really have the time and want to save yourself some effort in the garden, why not get a gardener? This is the best solution if you’re looking to minimise the time you spend gardening and instead, enjoy it with peace and serenity in your garden chair.

With these tips, you can create a low-maintenance garden that you can continue to enjoy all year round.
