Making the Switch to The Green Co. Laundry Sheets: My Honest Review

As someone who's always looking for simple ways to make our home a little more eco-friendly, I've become increasingly interested in products that promise to reduce plastic waste without sacrificing performance. Laundry detergent sheets have been popping up everywhere recently, so when The Green Co. got in touch try their products I jumped at the chance.
With my family’s laundry basket at the ready, I tried The Green Co. Laundry Detergent GreenSheets™ together with their Fabric Conditioner GreenSheets™. After several weeks of washing everything from school uniform to towels and bedding, here's what I thought.
A Different Way to Do Laundry
If you've only ever used liquid detergent or washing pods, laundry sheets might seem a little unusual at first.
Instead of pouring detergent into the drawer or dropping a pod into the drum, you simply place a thin detergent sheet into the washing machine before adding your clothes. The fabric conditioner works in a similar way, making the whole process incredibly straightforward.
It takes away the guesswork of measuring detergent and means there’s no risk of sticky spills or leaking bottles cluttering up the cupboard.
Small Package, Big Difference
One of the things I appreciated immediately was just how little storage space these Laundry Detergent GreenSheets™ need.
The cardboard packs are surprisingly compact, easily fitting into a cupboard where bulky detergent bottles would normally take up most of the shelf. It's a small change that makes the laundry area feel much tidier, especially if storage is limited.
They're also lightweight, making them far easier to carry home or pack for holidays, caravans or student accommodation.
I love that they can fit through the letterbox so there’s no need to wait in for parcels to be delivered. The whole process is just very convenient, which I appreciate being a busy mum.
How Well Do They Clean?
This was naturally my biggest question before trying them. Despite looking almost too delicate to do the job, the detergent sheets handled our regular household washing with ease. Everyday clothes came out clean and fresh, while towels and bedding felt just as clean as they do when using our usual detergent.
For heavily stained items, I still used a stain remover before washing, but that's something I normally do regardless of which detergent I'm using.
Overall, I found the cleaning results more than good enough for everyday family life and comparable to my usual detergent, just better for the environment!
My Thoughts on the Fabric Conditioner
I was pleasantly surprised by the Fabric Conditioner GreenSheets™. Rather than leaving an overpowering perfume on clothes, they gave everything a light, fresh scent that wasn't too strong.
Clothes felt soft after washing, towels remained fluffy and there was noticeably less static on synthetic fabrics. If you're sensitive to heavily fragranced laundry products, you'll probably appreciate the more subtle finish.
We chose the Lavender scent but they are also available in Fresh Linen.
The Environmental Benefits
One of the biggest reasons many people consider laundry sheets is the environmental impact. Traditional detergents often come in large plastic bottles, whereas The Green Co. packages its products in recyclable cardboard, helping to reduce plastic waste.
I was really interested to see the ingredient list. The detergent sheets are made using readily biodegradable cleaning agents, including plant-based surfactants that help lift dirt and stains while breaking down more easily in the environment than many traditional chemicals. They are also free from phosphates, chlorine bleach and unnecessary fillers, helping to reduce the number of potentially harmful substances entering waterways after each wash.
Combined with their lightweight, plastic-free cardboard packaging, the sheets then generate less packaging waste and require less energy to transport than heavy liquid detergents. This is a big selling point for us.
Is There Anything I'd Change?
The only thing to bear in mind is that these sheets are designed for everyday washing, if you’re looking for miracle stain removal you'll probably want to pre-treat them first or use an extra sheet for particularly large or dirty loads. I would do this anyway with my usual detergent so don’t see this as any different.
Would I Recommend Them?
Yes, I genuinely think they're worth trying and for us it was a simple decision to switch. The Green Co. has created a laundry product that's easy, convenient and far less bulky than traditional detergents. While still cleaning to the level you would expect for busy families with large loads of washing. The sheets could not be more quick and simple to use, you have the peace of mind that they reduce plastic packaging and help keep your laundry cupboard more organised.
