We make it sound so simple! Here are our top tips…

Dishes and Glasses

It is easy to change out the winter dishes for a brand new take on summer. Stores like Target, Pottery Barn and Pier One Imports have plenty of very inexpensive dinnerware. At Pottery Barn, the Coastal Curiosity Collection features plates, napkins, placemats and even table runners with natural designs.

In the UK, try Zara Home, H&M Home and Next Home which always offer reasonably priced items and keep up with seasonal trends.

Going back to dishes and glasses, one idea could be to purchase a set of dipping bowls perfect for serving seasoned olive oil to go with freshly baked summer breads. You can find dishes featuring nature-themed designs which suit the season.

Add a Splashback

While this is a slightly more permanent addition to your kitchen, it should last forever and easily pay for itself in time. Splashbacks are one of those wonderful features that are both practical and pretty.

A splashback makes it much easier to clean your kitchen and keep the walls looking nice. Any oil or potentially staining liquids that get on your splashback can be easily wiped away without any bother.

You can also play around with different designs. Glass splashbacks can look great in any kitchen, and go perfectly with the summer vibes you might be looking for.

Wall Art

If you'd prefer to add budget-friendly summer wall decorations, just get a plate hanger from the local crafts or hardware store and put your favourite platters on the wall.

You can also do this with pretty tea towels or prints of seashells, beach coral and butterflies, sure to create a summery feeling.

Orange or Red Summer Kitchen Accents Spark Appetites

Orange and red colours supposedly increase appetites. If you want family, friends or neighbours to hang out in your kitchen over casual meals this summer, why not brighten things up a bit?

Use orange craft paper to cover favourite cookbooks (write the title in black ink on the spine side). Grab some inexpensive but bright orange, red and yellow dish towels. For a final touch, buy some matching dishes and consider painting one wall a bright orange or red. Paint is relatively inexpensive and even a wall can easily be repainted when the season ends.

Paint stores like Sherwin Williams have plenty of vibrant and very budget friendly summer paint colors. Go with a bright red or orange shade.

Try Retro for Cheap Summer Decorating Ideas

Plenty of stores sell everything from 50s style tables and matching chairs to vintage aprons and tablecloths. It doesn't cost a lot to buy these items. If you like the look but can't find any retro kitchen furniture for the right price at a garage sale, consider checking out pound stores and charity shops.

Buy Secondhand

Matching seats and dishes could easily be found at a thrift store or garage sale or you could paint unfinished furniture a bright white or red to complement the table. Finish with some solid or floral vintage dishes for some personality and flair!

Remember to shop your home before you head out, as often moving things to a different room or repainting a piece of existing furniture can solve your decorating woes. This means you won’t spend a penny!
